Upcycling- from a skirt to a top

I bought a vintage 80's skirt for $5 at the Collingwood Peoples' Market a couple of Sundays ago, with the aim of shortening it for my daughter for her to wear. She didn't like it. It was too small for me but it did fit if I wore it as a strapless top! Which got me thinking about refashioning it into a top using a pattern I had from Treasured Collection.

I unpicked the elastic at the waist and the side seams as far down as the ruffle. I then used the sleeveless pullover top pattern S. I had some bias binding in the stash for the neck and armholes and made the skirt into a sleeveless top with the ruffles as a kind of peplum.

It all turned out quite well I think.

  1. What a fantastic idea! I love this top. I'm now going to scour the op shops with a new eye.

  2. The skirt was fine, but I like this so much better as a top. Great job!
