Fabulous 50's bib

With the arrival of twins (fraternal: a boy and a girl) in the family, I knew just the thing to make as a welcome gift: a fabulous 50's bib by You Sew Girl.

I really like its apron style design, front pocket, binding and terry towelling lining. I did make some changes though when I made it up.
1. With the pocket I made it self lining as I thought a terry towelling lined pocket with a bias bound edge would make the bib too heavy.
2. I changed the fastening at the back from a bias binding tie to a snap fastener.

3. I didn't bind the shoulder seams but sewed the lining and the bib fabric shoulder seams separately and then joined the two layers. This was done to reduce bulk at the shoulder seam. In the instructions the lining and fabric layer are treated as one and so when the shoulder seam is sewn, it requires binding, to cover the raw edges.
I'll be sending these off tomorrow. The babies are only newborn, so they will have to plenty of time to grow into them!
