Trust

With the summer holidays comes time to read. Yay! I've just finished 'Trust' by Kate Veitch which has been on my bedside table for over a year. The novel is about family relationships: those between husband and wife, parent and child as well as siblings. Trust is at the heart of the novel and its importance in sustaining strong and healthy relationships. The novel centres around Susanna Visser and her middle-class suburban life in contemporary Melbourne, with husband Gerry and teenage children Seb and Stella-Jean, sister Angie, nephew Finn and mother Jean. Susanna finds out that her husband has been unfaithful and this is when the story becomes interesting. The book also deals sympathetically with some important issues such as child abuse and sexuality. For me, a gentler version of modern suburban life and relationships than 'The Slap'.
